Cathedral of Cortona
Cortona, Tuscany

Cortona is the most easterly of the Tuscan hill towns. The walled town, 600 meters above sea level, is essentially unchanged in appearance since the streets and palazzi were finished in the fifteenth century. Large areas are reserved for pedestrians throughout the day making a restful though busy atmosphere. It is rich in archeological wonders from the Etruscan, Medieval, Roman, and Renaissance eras. Cortona was made famous by Frances Mayes' book, Under the Tuscan Sun, but it was put on the map by the Etruscans, who have left tombs everywhere around the hill of which Cortona was built upon.
Reception

Villa Baroncino is an historic villa nestled amidst a pleasant hilly landscape overlooking Lake Trasimeno. The villa was originally built in the 18th century and has been beautifully restored and furnished with antiques befitting the style and history of the villa. The Villa revels amidst luxuriant gardens, lavish with the vegetation typical of the Umbria region, acres of land covered with olive groves and century-old trees, two swimming pools and spectacular 360-degree views over the lake and the surrounding countryside.
The villa is just a couple of minutes by car from Tuoro sul Trasimeno, a small borough that offers plenty of characteristic shops and typical restaurants. With a short drive, one arrives also to many important cities and towns in Tuscany and Umbria, like Perugia, Assisi, Cortona, Montepulciano, Siena, and Florence.
Villa Baroncino has been rented by us from September 4th-11th and will also serve as accommodations for the wedding party. It is approximately 30 minutes away from Cortona.

Things To Do
Umbria is a region of beautiful rolling hills topped by attractive, character-rich, old towns. The region celebrates a relaxed pace of life while offering spectacular sights. Within easy driving distance from Villa Baroncino are many important towns in Tuscany and Umbria including:
Perugia: The capital city of Umbria, Perugia is romantic and an affluent city home to great frescoes and a hilltop centro storico. It is also beloved by chocoholics, as Hazelnut Baci candies were born here.
Assisi: Umbria's largest town, sanctified by St. Francis, doubles as a beautiful medieval village and a major pilgrimage site for the Basilica di San Francesco, which consists of a Lower and Upper Church.
Cortona: An ancient stone Tuscan town with olive trees and vineyards leading to its walls. It sits high above the perfectly flat Valdichiana valley, offers great views of the countryside, and its medieval streets are a pleasure to wander for their own sake.
Montepulciano: One of Tuscany's medieval and Renaissance hill towns, Montepulciano is famous for its wines, particularly the Vino Nobile, considered by wine connoisseurs to be one of Italy's best. The main street stretches for 1.5 kilometers from the Porta al Prato to the Piazza Grande at the top of the hill. The attractive city is renowned for its walkable, car-free nature.
Orvieto: With its spectacular hilltop location, Orvieto is famed for its cathedral (Duomo) and dry white wines. Dating back to the Bronze Age (3300–1200 BC), it is one of the oldest cities in the region.
Siena: Often described as Italy's best preserved medieval city, Siena offers a stunning Gothic Duomo, early Renaissance art, the Palazzo Pubblico and the 12th century constructed Piazza del Campo--the heart of the Tuscan town and one of the finest squares in the country.
Driving distances from Villa Baroncino: Perugia (20 minutes), Gubbio, Assisi and Todi (40 minutes); Orcia Valley (a half of an hour); Florence, Spoleto and Siena (one hour), Rome (two hour and half).
You will also have the possibility to visit the island of the Trasimeno Lake, thanks to a very efficent ferry service. The lake itself is also a paradise for anyone who enjoys watersports such as swimming, water-skiing and sailing.
